You must remember this…

“Paris is always a good idea.”  – Audrey Hepburn

You will do foolish things, but do them with enthusiasm.” – Sidonie Gabrielle Colette

Too much of a good thing can be wonderful.” – Mae West

No temptation can ever be measured by the value of its object.” – Sidonie Gabrielle Colette

You must remember this…

“We’ll always have Paris”

Rick whispers to Ilsa

The memories of

Passion born

Romantic interlude

Lucien taking my hand

Dans la Louvre

His deep resonating accent

Thick as a fine paté,

A call to arms, to lips, tongues…

Two arms guide me

Lost in Ribera’s

Club-footed boy

Spanish room

His favourite,

La Louvre closes

I’m introduced to

The Latin quarter,

Notre Dame,

Secluded niche

Spring grasses,

Canopy of leaves

Along the Seine

City of light

La ville de l’amour

No need for translation

Communication

Flows freely

Play it again…

  1. You have perfected this to the last syllable! It’s simply gorgeous Lea. And I love the accent being compared to a fine patë, fabulous and the ending is -.well – perfect. And of course great quotes xxx

  2. Aw…’Thick as a fine paté,’—wondrous—so very many allusions and connotations—so very French—fab poem Léa xxx

  3. This is just glorious – you whirled the up into your world many times, and I’ve never wanted to come down. I adore Paris, But shall never see it with the same eyes again. You have recreated for me with your special memories. Thank you with all my heart

    1. You are so sweet! Perhaps the next time you are in Paris… never say never! 🙂 xx
Actually, I was watching Casablanca when the poem came to me. 😉

    1. Kath, I love Tati! Have you ever seen Le ballon rouge? (The Red Balloon). There isn’t a word of dialogue and it doesn’t need it.

  4. Oh sigh. I do so love Paris. My three visits just whetted my appetite for all things Parisian. It really does seem cruel to be flying into Paris and right on to Toulouse. But, this is my husband’s dream trip and he’s has spent days planning every moment in the South of France.

Always enjoy your lovely poetry and could relate to the Casablanca, references, but it did revive all my longing to return to Paris. C’est la vie. At least I have my memories and photos.

    Hope you are well.

    1. “We’ll always have Paris!” I do understand and despite my love of Paris, I wouldn’t want to live anywhere but here. You must be getting excited with you trip coming up very soon.

      1. We are sort of in the middle of crises. My knee surgery went well last week, but my husband is having a lung biopsy tomorrow and my youngest son, father of four, has discovered he needs a pace maker. All our plans are in place with reservations made, but right now I am very glad I took out insurance in case it has to be cancelled. All prayers gratefully appreciated.

      2. Consider yourselves surrounded by a flood of positive thoughts and wishes! An old English saying, ‘All shall be well and all shall be well and all manner of things shall be well.’

  5. Lea, I love that saying by a woman mystic. My best friend, who has lost both her husband and her youngest son, sends that to me. Coming from her I know that it can have true meaning even in suffering. Thanks for reminding me! I love that even as strangers we can reach out and touch one another across oceans and borders with caring. Blessings.

  6. deeeeep sigh… yes… paris is awesome and def. always a good idea… sounds like a wonderful time there…i need to go see her again soon

  7. Oh, in Sweden Casablanca is a classic Ingrid Bergman film, one of our great international actresses.

Two Swedish famous guys did swedish lyrics to As time goes by with an sense of humour, but also serious words. You can hear it here:
Hasse & Tage – Men Tiden Går with Monica Zetterlund

    Lovely poem 🙂

    1. What a treat! Thank you for sharing that. Who doesn’t love Ingrid Bergman? I’m forwarding the link to a few who I know will appreciate it. Thanks again Anna! 🙂

      1. I can understand that. Many of us in Sweden love Hasse & Tage and Monica Zetterlund’s work. They did many songs together that is absolutely brilliant.

      2. He’s good. He has a summerhouse outside my town. He always have a concert or two in Trosa in the summers.

      3. He sings our unofficial anthem Anthem from the musical Chess (Andersson / Ulvaeus / Rice). Many think that it should be our official national anthem. If you have not heard it, do it! The text can all relate to whatever nation they come from.

      4. Thank you Anna. However, I’ve listened to him singing Anthem more times than I could count. 🙂 I’ve also forwarded the link for others to hear across the states.

  8. Oh Lea this makes Paris fly to the top of my travel bucket list! Beautifully and seductively written, wonderful piece 🙂 xx
