Be a cat

“A cat has absolute emotional honesty: human beings, for one reason or another, may hide their feelings, but a cat does not.”  – Ernest Hemingway

BE A CAT

We do not have nine

Only one – allocated

Much shorter than you think

Racing – a comet in the night

Be a cat

Think of the graceful feline

Encountering something new

The nose begins to twitch

Whiskers poised and ready

Be a cat

Curiosity in all things

Absorb all you can

Touch it, feel it,

Make love to it

Be a cat

Take pleasure in your body

It’s keeping you together

Treat it kindly

Any shortcomings are cerebral

Be a cat

Drink this life in

Champagne – tickles, savor it

Take a lesson from felines

Relish it all, retrace pleasure

Head first, into the new

Be a cat

Rejoice in the night

Solitude, darkness, peace

Wondrous world to explore

All, different – alive

Be a cat

Don’t waste it

No feline ever would

Satisfy your urges

Le chat never postpones

Sharing pleasure –

Makes the world go around

Be a cat

Only the feline

Curls up

Relives her pleasures

Then rises to do them

Again, again and again

Be a cat

TBR: A poem of book titles waiting to be read

“A home without books is a body without a soul.”  –   Marcus Tullius Cicero

” If you can only read the books that everyone else is reading, you can only think what everyone else is thinking.”        –  Haruki Murakami

“Books are the plane, the train, and the road. They are the destination and the journey. They are home.”                                   –   Anna Quindlen

Over the years of blogging, I have seen a few poems built from book titles. Perhaps it is time to try one of my own. To be honest, these represent a tiny tip off the old iceberg and are one of several much larger TBR piles. Please understand, these are only emergency piles that have places of honour about the house and have nothing to do with my library… but one should always have something to read nearby!

It was curiosity

That set the cat free

LA CHATTE NOIR
LA CHATTE NOIRE

Several weeks ago, I asked for your help in finding a name for my business. There were several wonderful submissions. With the help of some very special trusted friends, and a few of the feline variety, the struggle has come to an end. However, that was not before spending hours trying out the suggestions, a few of my own and variations of them all. On 10 June as I drove away from the lovely beach village of Leucate after my weekly French class, a title popped into my head. There has been some criticism as the famous Black Cat painted by the late Henri Toulouse Lautrec was Le Chat Noir. Yes, I do love that cat. However, I am a female and what I write, publish, paint, photograph… is with a feminine perspective and I desire that the name reflect that. Ergo, I present to you for the first time, LA CHATTE NOIRE PRESSE.

LA CHATTE NOIRE PRESSE can also be found on my LinkedIn page.

My sincere thanks to all who participated and all who lent their support. Thank you to my friend Natalje who hashed it out with me last night and gave me valuable feedback and aided me in realising this is what I had been searching for.

Bisous et calins,

Léa

The other side of the story…

“Time spent with cats is never wasted.”   –  Sigmund Freud

“There are two means of refuge from the miseries of life: music and cats.”   –  Albert Schweitzer

“In ancient times cats were worshiped as gods; they have not forgotten this.”  – Terry Pratchett

The other side of the story…

In my next life

I shall be a cat

Warm and soft

I will prowl with determination

My courage like my curiosity, insatiable

I explore what interests me

And ignore what does not

My throne by the window

Where I survey my kingdom

Bathing and preening

To my own satisfaction

              *

I will choose my staff carefully

And train them well

My dishes never empty

Fresh salmon on demand

To appease your human ego

I will let you think it was your idea

I curled up in your lap

That stormy night

Easing your trembling fears

With the silky tingle of my

Glorious coat

*

When alone, you pull me close

Dousing my fur with your tears

Convinced you are not alone

As I am there

When really, it just felt so good

That scratching behind the ear

Without having to move from

This warm perch

*

You fancy that I speak to you

With my melodic purr

Little do you know

I prefer my erotic tone

To your static noise

I know how to quiet you

To calm you

By letting you focus

On adoring me

As it should be

For I pull you out of yourself

–  five cents, the doctor is in

La chatte

“Of all God’s creatures, there is only one that cannot be made slave of the lash. That one is the cat. If man could be crossed with the cat it would improve the man, but it would deteriorate the cat.” – Mark Twain

“Way down deep, we’re all motivated by the same urges. Cats have the courage to live by them.” – Jim Davis

“There are two means of refuge from the miseries of life: music and cats.”- Albert Schweitzer

une chatte d’Albas

La chatte

They call her

Feral

Total lack of moralitié

She prowls about

Mon village

Sampling all the treats

On offer

Living by instinct

Reality not judgment

Despite nine lives

She knows how quickly

Today becomes the past

Her time is not to be wasted

Taking her pleasure

As she finds it

Satiated she moves on

In front of the fire

Reminiscent

Her rough tongue

Traces a map of pleasure

Washing, always washing

Body memories – retracing her passion

Spent

She sleeps

Perchance to dream
